C.S. Lewis

I have always loved the quotes of C.S. Lewis. He inspires me to think about my faith and to dig deeper!   I hope that you like this quote as much as I did!

God is faithful.

Our God is faithful. Even when we have no faith at all. He can make beauty out of ashes. He can change a heart that seems too stubborn or prideful. He will humble you, and at that moment that you realize that he IS GOD, you will appreciate his faithfulness.

Psalm 86:15
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.
Psalm 36:5-6 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is
faithful and he will do it.

Revelation 19:11
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Rejoice and be glad!

"Today is the day the LORD has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!"- Psalm 118:24

I love reading this verse on one of those mornings that the sun peaks through my shades at just the right angle to wake me from the best dream I've had all week. I'm sure everyone loves to read that verse on the beautiful mornings! But, what about the mornings when you're tired? What about the mornings after a long night? What about the mornings with no sun in the sky, instead gray clouds?

This Psalm does not say "Today is the day the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it only if it meets our standard of beauty!" or "Only if I feel like rejoicing in it!" This Psalm says, "Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" Period. So today... when you feel like screaming, when you feel like you've lost, when the weather gets to you... REJOICE and BE glad! Because THIS is the day the Lord has made!

"And I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm"

"...for they have nothing else."

"They need their money, and their palaces and their fine clothes and
handsome equipages, for they have nothing else. "

Quote from Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth E. Prentiss

When I read Stepping Heavenward, this quote was the one that I respected the most. She was talking about her friend, Amelia, and her husband, who was actually planning to marry Katherine in the beginning of the book. Amelia strayed form the Lord, and relied on her husband's wealth.

In today's society, and even in the church, I see people who would bury their money with them in the grave. But, after reading this line in Stepping Heavenward, I realize that these people don't have anything else... they only have their wealth.

People will not understand how important it is to place Jesus first in their life until they loose what they do have. They then realize that Jesus is forever and money isn't.

  • Proverbs 23:4-5 Do not wear yourself out to get rich;  do not trust your own cleverness.Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
  • Proverbs 11:28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.
  • 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.
  • Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
  • 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world nor the things in the world If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
  • Psalm 62:10 ..if riches increase, do not set your heart on them
